Preserve Sewataro.

For more than 60 years, Sewataro has been one of Sudbury’s most beautiful and distinctive natural community resources. With more than 44 acres of ponds, woods, trails, and camp facilities, Sewataro is a special sanctuary where generations of children have spent their summers and where the Town has a rare opportunity to preserve open space, natural beauty, recreation, and community programming for generations to come.

Now, that land is being considered for development, including northern wooded lots by Greystone Lane, open fields and parking areas by Haynes Road, and the lot at 213 Haynes Road.

Join us in keeping Sewataro as a haven of scenic beauty and quiet refuge. Speak up, stay engaged, and help preserve this irreplaceable property.

Who we are

The Friends of Sewataro (FOS) is a volunteer group of neighbors and local residents who came together in 2018, when the Taylor family announced their decision to retire and sell their property. The vision was to protect the entire property from development, expand local recreational opportunities and continue Camp Sewataro for working families. We believed this was accomplished in 2019, with the majority vote to purchase the property.

In early 2026, three of five Sudbury Selectboard persons voted to create an Advisory Committee to explore future uses of the property, including housing development.

What residents ranked highest

Expanding the camp and expanding community activities on the property is being called “Sewataro Plus.” Sudbury residents made their priorities for the Sewataro property clear at the public input session on June 24, 2026.

01

Keep the camp

A long-term agreement so the camp can continue serving Sudbury families, and expanding community programming.

02

Year-round programs

Expanded Parks & Recreation programming, community events, farmers market, fall festival, concerts, and a community garden.

03

Conservation

Protect the ponds, the woods, and the headwaters of Pantry Brook.

04

Art studios, concerts, and screen-free programming for kids and teens.

The committee reports by the end of October.

Some town agencies are determined to carve off Haynes Road and Greystone Lane for housing projects. Now is the time to tell the Town that Sewataro should be preserved as open space for a camp and community activities.
