Sharing my LLSAC meeting notes dated 9-3-2026, by Laura Briggs:
The discussion continues from last week’s session, with the focus on the current contract and the imminent last renewal extension of 5 years, with negotiations in early 2027.
No public comments.
Granger: Could we offer six five-year extensions (total of 30 years)? Yes, although as {10:49} Jen Pincus points out, the reason the camp wants a long-term contract is to invest in Camp development. Five year extensions may not provide the contract stability.
Granger: What I am understanding is that it is not illegal to have a 30-year agreement, but it will require a Town Meeting vote. Dave noted an RFP would be required so would not provide a guarantee that the current Camp Operator would have an extension.
{16:00} Granger to the audience: In January, all things are leading towards renewing the 5-year extension (which begins in 2028). At the end of the 5-year extension (2033), Sudbury must do an RFP – Does that align with the timing for Sudbury to pursue a new RFP for a 30 year agreement?
Kay The RFP was the defining four corners, so Town needs to review the original RFP.
{30:10} Deb: During the next five years, we should review the trail signage, trail marking. Do a land survey. State what exactly Camp Sewataro would be responsible for (X,Y,Z). Jen noted the LLSAC is not responsible for the road map. Deb has heard public comment requesting Sudbury residents have a first option to enroll in the Camp. Deb suggested that each LLSAC member note what we would like to see, submit to James, then have a 5-year recommendation list to review during the next meeting.
{1:44:00} Granger The 213 Haynes road house –we are defining it as not part of the Camp. Jen states we should note to not consider building housing on anything except these parcels…Granger wants to freeze things for 5 years. 1:46: Deb Dineen suggests that the Town do more studies, define the Camp boundaries, and tell the Camp DO NOT ENCROACH on the full property.
{1:47:00} Radha suggests in the long-term recommendations that the construction of a year-round building to occur on the area within the Camp area, possibly replacing the current pavilion. Preserve the nature of the property while enhancing the Camp. {1:49:00} Kay wants to have current unused parcels have the option of studies to understand if housing could be an option.
{1:59:00} Deb Dineen suggests keeping it as the “status quo” for the next five years. Define what we have on the ground now. Granger We are 100% limiting the Camp from going into the space that they are not using currently.
{2:04:00} Deb Dineen -It would be nice if someone could take their kids out on one of the boats/kayak on the pond in the evening? Kay: All of this was addressed in the RFP, but the detail was left out of the contract.
James shared an update regarding the Town Survey:
640 surveys completed (20 paper responses) – the LLSAC will present the Survey results at the next meeting scheduled Thursday, September 10th at 6:30pm.
As a note, October 8th at 6:30pm will be the last public input session, live at the Fairbanks multi-purpose meeting room.
The LLSAC owes the Select Board an update regarding their progress.
